Yes - A visa is required for travel to India

Temporary Visa and Entry Suspension: Please be advised that India has suspended the issuance of all visas except diplomatic and official visas until further notice. The Indian government has also suspended entry for all travellers arriving from EU and EFTA countries, Turkey and UK. Applicants intending to travel to India for compelling reasons should contact the consulate for assistance.

eVisa Eligibility

If you meet specific eligibility requirements then you may wish to apply for an India e-Visa instead of following the information listed above. The India e-Visa is an electronic authorization from the government to enter India and is equivalent to a visa, but no stamp or label is placed in your passport.

To be eligible the traveller must:

  • Submit for the India e-Visa no less than 4 days and no more than 120 days prior to entry into India
  • Be arriving by air or sea at specific airports and seaports
  • Be traveling for a 180-day stay or less in India

Note: The India Electronic Tourist Visa is a multiple entry visa with a validity of one year.

Due to concerns around coronavirus, applicants who have been in China on or after January 15, 2020 as well as those who have been in Italy, Iran, Japan, or South Korea on or after February 1, 2020 are not eligible for an India e-visa. You will need to apply for a standard (non-electronic) visa, e.g. Tourist, Business, etc., which are available by reentering your purpose of travel on our homepage.
